- Cloud Init is a technology innovated by Ubuntu that enables a machine to customize itself (install software, add ssh keys, run arbitrary scripts) as it first boots on a cloud such as the EC2 cloud. The cloud used needs to have a way to pass the arbitrary user-data to the booting image
